Josephine Li

Josephine Li is a sophomore at West Windsor-Plainsboro High School South. Currently, she is studying piano with Ms. Marion Zarzeczna of Trenton and has been studying with her for the past four years. Her first piano lesson was with Helen Lapidus at the age of four.

In addition to being a four times winner of the Steinway Scholarship Competition, Josephine won both bronze and silver awards in the Young Pianist Competition of New Jersey. She also won second place in her group in the YPCNJ Concerto Competition. In the NJMTA Young Artist Piano Competition, Josephine won first place four times and in the Annual Piano Recital Auditions, she received a five-year trophy, a seven-year trophy, and a ten-year plaque. Also, she has won first place in the Goldblatt Scholarship Competition. Josephine is a three-time winner of the Andrew De Grado Piano Competition and performed in the Winners’ Recital at Kean University. This past May, she won the Battleground Concerto Competition and performed with the Manalapan Battleground Orchestra. In addition, Josephine performed in the Leschetizky Winner’s Recital, Steinway Hall and several times at Weill Hall of Carnegie Hall.

She is involved in many activities in and out of school. At school, Josephine is president of the Cognetics Club and is a member of the Science Club. In addition, she volunteers for the Red Cross and enjoys playing tennis. She is a piano–accompanist for her school’s choir. Also, Josephine has played at church and performed for local communities.

Josephine Li is a winner in the 2003 Fifth Annual Andrew De Grado Piano Competition in the soloist category with her performance of Feux d’artifice (Fireworks) by Debussy.
