Kirk Benson

Kirk Benson is a sixth grade student at the Peck School in Morristown. He is a student of Gustave Ferri of Denville and has been studying piano for seven years. Kirk is the winner of several piano competitions. Earlier this year, he was a competition winner in the Classical, Jazz and Popular Styles Divisions of the Piano Teachers Society of America (PTSA) and also holds the distinction of being a winner in the Classical Division of PTSA’s 1999 competition. In 2000, Kirk was a winner in the State of New Jersey Master Class Competition with Joseph Kalichstein and performed at the Suburban Community Center. At the 2000 Young Pianist Competition of New Jersey, Kirk placed in the Classical Division. Also, in 1999, he was awarded second place in the overall competition for the Solo Division and was a winner in the Classical Division both in 1999 and 1998. Kirk has performed in five winners’ recitals in Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall at PTSA and Young Pianists recitals, in the Millburn Library as well as various recitals at the Suburban Community Center and school events.

In addition to his musical interests, Kirk is an avid tennis player and competes in the USTA Junior Tournaments.

Kirk Benson was a winner in the 2002 Fourth Annual Andrew De Grado Piano Competition in the soloist category with his performance of Rumours de La Caleta by Isaac Albéniz.
