
Jun Liu
Jun Liu is a senior at John P. Stevens
High School in Edison. Currently, she is a student of Ingrid Clarfield
of Princeton and has been studying with her for the past five years
of the twelve that Jun took piano lessons. During her musical career,
she has won numerous awards. This year, she was the Grand prize winner
of the American Music Teachers League Competition, a first place winner
in Piano Teachers Congress Competition of New York and a Solo Gold prize
winner of the Young Pianist Competition of New Jersey. In the 2001 and
2000 Yamaha Competition, Jun was the representative for the New Jersey
High School Division and received Honorable Mention in the Music Teachers
National Association (MTNA) Eastern Divisional Competition. Also, in
2001, she received the Best Accompanist Award at the Festivals of Music
choir trip in Boston, was a first place winner in the Steinway Society
Scholarship Competition and a winner in the Third Annual Andrew De Grado
Piano Competition. Jun was the sole competitor from New Jersey who was
chosen to play in the International Festival Young Virtuosos
Gala Final Concerts, which were held in Carnegie Hall by the Russian-American
Music Association in 1999. She won first prize in the Associated Music
Teachers League Competition in New York. Jun was the winner of the Manalapan
Battleground Symphony Concerto Competition and was seen in concert,
performing Chopins Concerto in E minor at Rowan University after
winning the NJMTA Concerto Competition. In 1998, Jun received the Best
Performance Award in the Queens College Cultural Heritage Competition.
In addition to Juns strong ability in music, she is versatile
in her academic pursuits and extracurricular activities. She received
a Student Scholarship Award Certificate from the Chinese Institute of
Engineers USA/GNYC in 2001 and won the District 8 Audio Essay Competition
from VFW of NJ. Jun is the Associate Editor-In-Chief for the school
newspaper Hawkeye and a board member of Sex, Etc., which is a New Jersey
based nation-wide health newsletter. Her hobbies include visual arts,
dance and swimming.
Jun Liu was a winner in the 2002 Fourth Annual Andrew De Grado Piano
Competition in the soloist category with her performance of Funerailles
by Liszt and Gargoyles by Lowell Liebermann.
