Scott Chapman
Gil Scott Chapman is a seventh
grade student at the Roosevelt Intermediate School in Westfield. He
started piano lessons at the age of six with Loretta Jankowski of Mountainside.
At Gil Scotts school, he plays piano in the jazz band and alto
saxophone in the seventh grade band as well as the saxophone in his
church band. He was a winner in the 2002 Music Educators Association
(MEA) competition for his solo performance. Also, in 2000, he was a
winner of the Piano Teachers Society of America (PTSA) competition in
the piano composition category. In addition, Gil Scott is a member of
the New York Youth Symphony Chamber Music Program and the New York Youth
Symphony Making Score program. He enjoys playing his digital
piano, composing, attending concerts, reading, writing and playing video
games. Gil Scott enjoys basketball and is on the basketball team at
his school. His future career aspirations cover a wide range from music
to becoming a professional basketball player.
Gil Scott Chapman was a winner in the 2002 Fourth Annual Andrew De Grado
Piano Competition in the soloist category with his performance of the
Butterfly by Grieg.
